Upon her first glimpse of Taos, New Mexico, Alice Geneva “Gene” Kloss (b. 1903 – d.1996) fell in love with the Southwest. Traveling with her etching press, she was inspired to generate work from what she encountered, including people, everyday life, and the surrounding landscape. Born in Oakland, California, Kloss shifted her focus to producing images of Taos in various forms, including prints, paintings, and sketches.
