Sīmā

Nova Contemporary · Bangkok
On view August 15 to October 3, 2026

To think from the border is to discover that the line was never primary. We tend to imagine the border as a line, drawn to contain and order the world. Yet the line is a late arrival to a world already shaped by land, ritual, memory, and place. In Thai Buddhist practice, the border takes form as the sīmā (สีมา), consecrated markers that delineate sacred ground.
