A pioneering artist, world traveler, and champion of women in the arts, Yoshida Fujio (Japanese, 1887–1987) was one of the first Japanese women to receive formal training in Western-style painting and build an international career. Raised in an artistic family, she began exhibiting her work as a teenager and traveled extensively through North America and Europe with fellow artist Yoshida Hiroshi, whom she later married.
